Two suspects were arrested after dead dogs, other animals found at a South Carolina home.

A collection of dogs, snakes, chickens and ducks — some dead, others malnourished — were found at a home in Union County, resulting in the arrests of the previous tenants.

In all, Union County Sheriff’s deputies say they found two dead snakes, four dead dogs, two dead ducks and a number of dead chickens, according to reports.

Two severely malnourished dogs were found living inside the house on Old Ferry Road, Corporal Matt Caldwell of the Union County Sheriff’s Office said in his report. Another dog was found malnourished in the backyard.

Animal Control officers took those dogs to the county animal shelter.

Three of the dead dogs were found decomposed and locked in a cage in a shed. Also locked in cages were the ducks and chickens.

Arrested on Jan. 24 were Kerry Brown, 43, of Buffalo and Maquiese Jones, 44, of Whitmire, who had lived on the property for five years but were evicted in November, court records show.

They were each charged with several counts of abandonment of animals and ill treatment of animals in general, torture. Court records show they were released on a $500 personal recognizance bond and are required to appear in court at 9 a.m. March 19.

Deputies were initially called about the eviction on Dec. 8.
