A new Outback Steakhouse is coming to this bustling Midlands commercial corridor
A major national steakhouse chain is headed to one of the Midlands’ busiest retail areas.
Outback Steakhouse, which has hundreds of restaurants nationwide, is coming to 5595 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington, according to a sign at the property. A large, green sign from contractor KTM Builders that says “Coming Soon: Outback Steakhouse” is posted at the site along Sunset.
An Outback has long been rumored for the Sunset Boulevard spot. The site formerly was home to an O’Charley’s casual dining restaurant, which closed in 2022. The building that once housed the O’Charley’s was recently demolished.
The location in the 5500 block of Sunset is near a host of nearby retail businesses, including Papa John’s, Tractor Supply Co., a Verizon store and many more. A Home Depot and a Walmart are directly across the street. More than 35,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Sunset, per state Department of Transportation statistics.
There are nearly 700 Outback locations in the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero. Other Columbia-area locations include a spot on Harbison Boulevard and one at 7611 Two Notch Road.
Founded in 1988 in Florida, Outback is known, naturally, for its steak menu, as well as sandwiches, seafood, desserts, salads, pasta and appetizers, including the popular Bloomin’ Onion.
