A new extended-stay hotel is proposed for a Midlands commercial district
A 124-room, extended-stay Marriott hotel may soon come to a busy commercial district in Columbia.
The 52,000-square-foot project is proposed to be built just north of the Columbiana Centre mall in the busy Harbison shopping area, between Interstate 26 and Columbiana Drive.
There are two extended-stay hotels already in the area — a Fairfield Inn and an InTown Suites.
StudioRes hotels by Marriott are a “new lodging concept designed from the ground up with a specific customer and a specific owner in mind,” according to the Marriott website. It notes that the hotels are marketed toward “short-term rental” customers who plan to stay for 20 days or longer.
The site adds that StudioRes hotels are intended to be low-cost to operate, with no breakfast options and weekly housekeeping. All StudioRes hotels are 124 rooms with options ranging from studios to double queen options.
John Bianco with Noble Investment Group, based in Atlanta, is the applicant to the city on the project. Noble Investment Group focuses on building extended-stay hotels, according to its website.
The Columbia Planning Commission is expected to consider the project at a Thursday meeting. Planning staff have recommended site plan approval for the project, according to an agenda for Thursday’s meeting.
