Marina ruled out on Lake Murray cove
The site that Richland County acquired on a Lake Murray cove will become an undefined “upscale tourism or banquet facility” and not a marina, Councilman Bill Malinowski said Friday.
It was the first revelation of how the 4.3-acre tract in the Ballentine area could be developed.
Putting a marina there is impossible because the tract is too small, South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. spokesman Eric Boomhower said. SCE&G manages the 47,500-acre lake.
Malinowski, who helped arrange the $2 million purchase, promised neighborhood residents will have a say on what happens at the site.
Some homeowners there complained they had no clue about the purchase and the traffic it likely will bring to their neighborhood until The State newspaper disclosed the deal last week.
