It’s championship time.

While many have focused their attention on the hardwood the last couple weeks, we’ve been looking at a spicier bracket challenge. Welcome to the final round of The State’s 2024 Chicken Wings Bracket.

We want to know your favorite restaurant for chicken wings in the Columbia and Lexington areas. We started three weeks ago with a list of 16 restaurants, selected by The State’s staff, in Round 1. That was cut down to eight places in the next round, then four competitors in Round 3. And now we’ve reached the finals.

There are two Midlands spots still standing in the brackets: Carolina Wings & Rib House, which has four locations in Lexington County, and Wings & Ale, a Midlands staple for many years. Competition between those two, in particular, was furious in Round 3. In fact, only one vote separated the two in when the smoke cleared. Now they face off in the finals.

As ever, here are some ground rules and housekeeping about this bracket challenge. For this one we focused on brick-and-mortar restaurants. (Sorry, food trucks.) Also, this contest included either locally-owned places or small chains. (Sorry, Buffalo Wild Wings fans.) And, as always, please know that, from the start, this was not a comprehensive, all-encompassing list of every place in the Midlands that serves wings. It was simply a sampling of a number of places in the area, as identified by the newspaper’s staff.

You have until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 5, to vote for your favorite in the final round.

So vote early and vote often, and don’t forget an extra ranch sauce.
