Federal aid being used to build new sidewalks in Swansea
Swansea is getting $333,419 in federal aid to build sidewalks and crosswalks along three blocks of S.C. 6 in the center of town.
The improvements will extend along the road – known locally as West 2nd Street – from U.S. 321 to the railroad tracks near Cardiff Street.
All work on the project will be designed for travel by people with disabilities, state transportation officials said in announcing the award to the Lexington County town.
It’s too soon yet to know when the work will start and be completed, Mayor Ray Spires said. State officials will supervise it.
Swansea is one of five communities in South Carolina to receive the aid.
