Man charged with murder following the stabbing of a ‘female acquaintance,’ SC police say

The Richland County coroner has identified Joanne Robinson, 45, of Columbia as the woman who was fatally stabbed after an altercation on Devine Street in Columbia Monday.

On Tuesday, the Columbia Police Department said 43-year-old Jimmy Lee Hill, Jr. was charged with murder. He was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime and violation of community supervision, jail records show.

Officers responded to the scene of the stabbing around 6 p.m. Monday, at Devine Street and Abelia Road, near the Piggly Wiggly between Beltline Boulevard and Kilbourne Road. Robinson was taken to an area hospital after being stabbed, where she later died.

Hill and Robinson, who police called “a female acquaintance” were involved in an argument that escalated.

Information about why Hill and Robinson were arguing was not available.

No bond was set for Hill who remains behind bars at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to jail records.
