Fire crews with Lexington County Fire Services and the S.C. Forestry Commission are working to extinguish a 20 to 21 acre woods fire in an area near Old Dunbar Road in West Columbia, officials say.

Five units were on scene and one airplane was in the air helping crews on the ground earlier Monday, Commission spokesman Doug Wood said Monday night.

The area is across from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport on the other side of a set of railroad tracks, but no structures are threatened at this time, Wood said.

A cause has not been determined. A mix of young hardwoods and pine trees is providing fuel for the fire, he said.
