A collision just outside Orangeburg on Wednesday morning left one person dead.

The crash occurred at about 7:40 a.m. on U.S. 178 at Shillings Bridge Road, said Lance Corporal Brittany Glover with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 2007 Mercedes-Benz was traveling east on U.S. 178, colliding with a 2002 Kia Sportage at the Shillings Bridge Road Intersection, Glover said.

“The sole occupant (of the Mercedes) was transported to an area hospital where they later succumbed to the injuries,” Glover said.

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office hasn’t yet released the name of the deceased.

The driver of the Kia was also injured and transported to an area hospital. No details were given about their condition.
