A corrections officer at a Midlands prison was hospitalized Thursday after he was stabbed in the head, the S.C. Department of Corrections said in a post on X.

The officer was taken to a hospital from Broad River Correctional Institution near Columbia after being attacked by an inmate, the department said.

“Prayers for his recovery,” the post on X, formerly Twitter, said.

A Department of Corrections spokeswoman said the officer was released from the hospital Thursday night and is now recovering at home.

WIS TV reports the stabbing happened around 10 a.m. Thursday. The officer’s injuries were described as non-life threatening.
