A well-known national brand plans a new store on a high-traffic road near Lake Murray
An iconic convenience store brand is set to bring a new location to Lexington.
Circle K, which has locations nationwide, including several in the Midlands, is planning a new store at 1512 N. Lake Drive, according to town of Lexington planning and zoning documents. That’s near Andrew Corley Road, and other nearby businesses include a Dollar General store and Rock Solid Hardscape and Landscaping Supply.
The town documents list the N. Lake Drive Circle K as “under construction.” The land was being cleared at the site when a reporter rode by Monday.
There are nearly 7,000 Circle K convenience stores across the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero. The company started in 1951 in Texas and has grown precipitously through the years, and now has locations across the world, including in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Its locations offer many convenience store hallmarks, including coffee, soda, snacks, automobile products and more.
The company’s brand also was immortalized in the classic 1989 time-traveling comedy film “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” when Keanu Reeves’ Ted Logan offered that “strange things are afoot at the Circle K.”
The location along N. Lake Drive will be in a high-traffic area about 2-miles south of the dam at Lake Murray. About 29,000 cars per day travel down N. Lake Drive, per state Department of Transportation stats.
