A man was killed Monday night when his car ran off the road and hit parked machinery, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 7 p.m. in Orangeburg County, said Lance Cpl. Nick Pye.

Pye said the man was driving a 2016 Mazda sedan westbound on I-26 near mile marker 169 where the car ran off the left side of the road and hit a Caterpillar steamroller parked off the shoulder of the highway. No one was in the steamroller.

The driver died at the scene, Pye said.

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office asks anyone with information on the deceased to contact them.

This collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
