There will soon be a new spot in the Midlands to grab a Dave’s Single, some fries, or maybe even a Frosty.

Wendy’s, the ubiquitous burger chain with locations across the U.S., is building a new location at 10601 Broad River Road in Irmo. That’s west of Interstate 26, near the intersection of Broad River and Dutch Fork roads.

Construction at the restaurant was ongoing when a reporter rode by Wednesday. There was a banner flying in front of the building announcing the location was hiring, and there were positions for the coming Irmo location listed on the Wendy’s career website. An opening date for the location has not been publicly announced.

The new Wendy’s will join a host of other restaurants and businesses in the Broad River Road and Dutch Fork Road corridor. Other businesses just west of where the Wendy’s will be include McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Arby’s, Freddy’s, Tractor Supply Co., a San Jose Mexican restaurant and more. There’s a Walmart Supercenter less than a mile away.

The burger joint will be coming to an area that sees plenty of traffic. About 21,000 cars per day traverse down that section of Broad River Road, per state Department of Transportation data.

There are more than 6,000 Wendy’s locations across the U.S., per the company’s website. That includes 138 restaurants in South Carolina. There are 11 Wendy’s in Columbia and 3 in Lexington. Wendy’s opened a new restaurant in 2023 on Platt Springs Road near Red Bank in Lexington County.
