First vertical beams go up at Columbia’s baseball park

The first vertical steel beams were erected Tuesday at Columbia’s Spirit Communications Park in a major construction milestone for the baseball park and entertainment venue.

The pieces were set in place along the ballpark’s first-base line. That’s where shops and restaurants will abut the stadium as part of the Columbia Common development on Bull Street.

Also, the city announced Tuesday that the Columbia Professional Baseball group will announce the team’s long-awaited name and the unveil the team’s official logos on Aug. 4.

The minor league baseball team is scheduled to play in Columbia in 2016.
