‘A very agonizing decision.’ Columbia’s Tiffany’s to close one part of its business
A well-known Columbia eatery announced that it is closing part of its business.
Tiffany’s Sweets, Eats and Meeting Place, located at 9704 Two Notch Road in northeast Columbia, said in a Thursday night Facebook post that it is closing the restaurant side of its business, with the last day being Saturday, Oct. 5. Meanwhile, the bakery portion of Tiffany’s — the facet for which it has most long been known — will remain open.
“The world is changing and so is Tiffany’s Bakery,” the business said in the Facebook post. “Unfortunately with today’s economy and many other factors it is unsustainable for Tiffany’s to keep our restaurant open. ... There has been much prayers and discussion and this was a very agonizing decision for our family to make.
“We are going back to our original roots and will continue to serve our great city and surrounding areas with the amazing pastries, cakes and our world famous petit fours.”
The announcement drew an immediate response on Facebook, with the post gathering nearly 900 reactions, 177 comments and nearly 150 shares as of early Friday morning.
The restaurant portion of Tiffany’s has been known for smashburgers, club sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, fried green tomatoes and much more. Its bakery has perhaps most been known for petit fours, the bite size style of cake that was made famous in France.
Tiffany’s initially opened as a bakery in Sept. 1977 in what was then known as Columbia Mall. It later moved to a spot at 8502 Two Notch Road, and eventually to the current space at 9704 Two Notch.
“Thank you so much to our amazing staff and community for the last 47 years and look forward to the next 47 years,” Tiffany’s said in its Thursday night Facebook post.
