A Richland County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being injured in a traffic collision while responding to an emergency call, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Around 8:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies had their lights and sirens on to respond to an emergency call. One of the deputies stopped at the intersection of Shop and Atlas roads to attempt to clear the intersection.

As the deputy drove through the intersection, another driver hit the passenger-side of the vehicle. The deputy was taken to a local hospital and the other driver “appeared ok” and stayed at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
