A new restaurant with a host of Southern favorites and a bistro flair has opened its doors in the Midlands.

The Cornbread Cafe recently debuted at 1101 Church St. in Elgin. That’s in the heart of Elgin, across the street from the U.S. Post Office, just northwest of Jefferson Davis Highway.

“Indulge in our mouthwatering Southern staples and tantalizing bistro-style specials like brisket and country fried steak,” The Cornbread Cafe’s website notes. “We pride ourselves on providing a warm and inviting atmosphere that will make you feel right at home.”

The Cornbread Cafe’s dinner menu is highlighted by country fried steak, fried chicken, smoked brisket and pulled pork, Southern étouffée, hamburger steak, salads and more. All entree plates come, as you might imagine, with cornbread. The lunch menu is spearheaded by sandwiches, including a fried green tomato BLT, a pimento cheeseburger, and fried bologna, among others.

The Elgin restaurant had a soft opening last week, per posts on its social media, and is set to begin normal hours this week. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
