What began as a standard traffic stop turned into a high-speed, 20-mile chase by Orangeburg authorities.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bowman’s Tynathan Luckett, 24, in the case and charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen weapon, failure to stop for a blue light, improper display of license plate, and simple possession of marijuana.

“This started out as an ordinary traffic stop,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in a statement. “But we ended up recovering a stolen car, a stolen rifle, and illegal drugs.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident began at about 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 19 near the intersection of Chestnut Street and Columbia Road in Orangeburg. Authorities were attempting to stop a red Infiniti Q60.

What ensued was a 20-mile, high-speed pursuit that ended on Stabler Road in Calhoun County. The suspect was eventually taken into custody.

When authorities looked it up, the Infiniti came back stolen out of Lexington County, the sheriff’s office said, while a gun found in the car came back stolen out of Orangeburg County.
