A Midlands shipping facility caught fire Thursday. What to know

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department was called to a fire at a commercial shipping facility on Belk Drive Thursday evening, the department reported on social media. That is where the department store Belk has a large distribution center.

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department was called to a fire at a commercial shipping facility on Belk Drive Thursday evening, the department reported on social media. That is where the department store Belk has a large distribution center.

Crews arrived to the scene Thursday night to find “a large amount of smoke in the building.” Crews then called a second alarm to dispatch more units to the fire.

The fire was located in the facility, according to the department. The building was safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, the fire department reported that the fire had been contained.
