Search ends for SC woman who never showed up to meet friend, police say

UPDATE: At 8:10 p.m. Sunday, the Sumter Police Department said Shannon Pelletz was “located in a neighboring county and is safe.”

A search is underway for a missing Midlands woman.

Shannon Pelletz was publicly reported missing by the Sumter Police Department Saturday. The 22-year-old was last seen walking north along U.S. 521/Camden Highway, police said in a news release. Information about when she was last seen was not available.

Pelletz was reported missing when she never arrived to a Broad Street fast-food restaurant where she and a friend planned to meet, according to the release.

There was no word if Pelletz was alone when she was last seen. Police did not say if foul play was suspected in Pelletz’s disappearance.

Police described Pelletz as a 5-foot-6, 140-pound woman with blond hair and blue eyes, who was last seen wearing “a black Philadelphia beanie hat, a white furry sweater and blue jeans with cut holes in them.”

Anyone who has seen Pelletz, or has information about her, is asked to call police at 803-436-2700, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
