A national burger chain has opened a new location in the Midlands, and brings with it a bit of celebrity shine.

Krystal, which has long been known for its slider burgers and more, opened a new location Dec. 9 at 1486 Chestnut St. in Orangeburg. Among the partners in the business are national radio and media personality Charlamagne Tha God and his wife Jessica Gadsden-McKelvey.

The Orangeburg location is one of several Krystals that Charlamagne will be launching in the Palmetto State. There will be a celebration at 10:45 a.m. Dec. 20 at the Orangeburg location with Charlamagne and local officials in attendance.

“Orangeburg is special to us because it’s the home of South Carolina State University, my mother’s alma mater, while my wife’s father is an alumni of Claflin University,” Charlamagne said in a release. “I also have an honorary degree from SCSU, where I established the Ford Family Endowed Scholarship Fund, so it’s a blessing to continue this mission of providing opportunities and jobs to South Carolinians. It’s always an amazing feeling to come back and give back.”

Charlamagne has been a well-known media voice for two decades, and is a co-host of the popular radio show The Breakfast Club. He created the Black Effect Podcast Network, and is a New York Times bestselling author, among other accolades.

There are about 300 Krystal restaurants nationwide, primarily located across the South. The restaurants are known for their burger and chicken sliders, which people often purchase in sacks of 12. The recently opened Orangeburg location will offer some exclusive new menu items, including churro fries (“golden, fried-to-perfection churros dusted in a cinnamon-sugar mix”), churro milkshakes, a glazed chicken and waffle sandwich, and more.

The Orangeburg Krystal is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
