Canadian manufacturing company set to bring nearly 100 jobs, $100M investment to SC county
A Canadian beverage manufacturer will likely bring nearly 100 jobs and invest nearly $100 million into Lexington County as it eyes opening a new facility.
Cardiff Products, which specializes in plant-based drinks, wants to open a plant at the county-owned Saxe Gotha Industrial Park. The company is awaiting final approval from the county council, which voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve the project on second reading and will have to take one more vote before the plan is finalized.
“We are very excited about the potential of this company coming to Lexington County,” Beth Carrigg, chairwoman of the county council, said at the meeting Tuesday.
If approved, the company would agree to invest a minimum of $99.6 million and create at least 94 jobs over a five-year period. The county would offer a handful of incentives to lure the company, including property tax breaks and an annual $500,000 tax credit for the next two decades.
The plant would sit on a 38-acre parcel in the Saxe Gotha Industrial Park, a 700-acre plot of land near the intersection of Interstates 26 and 77 that already houses other prominent companies like Nephron Pharmaceuticals and an Amazon fulfillment center.
The manufacturing plant would be at least the second of its kind to open in the U.S. after the company, which was a dairy product manufacturer, got into the plant-based drink market in 2021. The other location is just outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas.
“This new facility represents an important milestone in our growth and reflects our commitment to supporting the communities where we do business,” company president Stew Cardiff said, in a statement read aloud at the Dec. 10 council meeting.
Manufacturing is Lexington’s third largest industry behind healthcare and retail, employing some 9,000 people.
