A new spot for gourmet Mexican ice pops is coming to this bustling area near Columbia
There will be a new place for cool treats next year in Forest Acres.
Morelia Gourmet Paletas, which serves artisanal Mexican ice pops with natural ingredients, is coming to 4517 Forest Drive, according to social media posts from the city of Forest Acres. That’s in the Forest Village shopping center that includes Tombo Grille, Fleet Feet and other retailers.
“Safe to say our sweet tooth just keeps getting sweeter in The Acres,” the city said on social media.
Morelia has locations in numerous states, including Florida, New Jersey, Texas, North Carolina, Virginia and New York. The only other current location in South Carolina is in Fort Mill. The Forest Acres location is listed as “coming soon” on the Morelia website. An exact date for an opening in Forest Acres hasn’t been announced, but the city said in its social media posts that the shop is coming in 2025.
“Paletas are a Mexican frozen treat made from fresh natural fruits such as strawberry and mango or made from rich creamy ingredients such as Belgium chocolate and Sicilian pistachio,” Morelia says on its website. the shop has more than 18 different flavors of paletas, which can be customized with various dippings and toppings.
Forest Drive remains a busy, high-traffic area with numerous restaurants, shops, boutiques and more. About 27,500 cars per day travel down the thoroughfare, according to SC Department of Transportation data.
