Boil Water advisory issued for large area of West Cola.

A broken water line prompted the city of West Columbia to issue a boil water advisory for residents and businesses in more than a square mile of the city.

Water customers in the densely populated area south of Sunset Boulevard (US 378) to E Street and from 12th Street east to the Congaree River are urged to vigorously boil any water used for drinking, food preparation or making ice for at least 60 seconds before use.

City utility crews are working to repair the line break near Alexandria Road. Until the repair is made and the line flushed, customers should take these precautions to reduce risk of ingesting contaminated water.
