All six lanes of a section Interstate 85 in Greenville County were shut down for hours Thursday afternoon after a bomb threat in a tractor trailer truck.

The truck’s driver was arrested and has been identified by the SC Department of Public Safety as Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi, 28, of Oak Lawn, Illinois. Greenville County Detention Center records indicate he has been charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, conveying false information about a bomb threat, and breach of peace of an aggravated nature. Upstate TV station WYFF reports that Alhendi’s bond was set at $20,238 on Friday morning.

The Department of Public Safety said in a release that, at about 2:45 p.m. Thursday, a state transport police officer conducted a traffic stop on a tractor-trailer truck on I-85 near mile marker 44. The truck was reportedly missing a license plate.

The driver of the truck reportedly told the officer there was an explosive device inside the vehicle. At that point, the interstate was shut down in that area, and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, SLED and the FBI responded to the scene to help investigate.

Ultimately no bomb was found on the truck and I-85 reopened at 7:45 p.m., about 5 hours after the incident first began.

The tractor trailer was registered to Globe Transportation, of Illinois, per the Department of Public Safety.
