A local restaurant that served Hawaiian fare in the Midlands has closed. Here’s where
A restaurant that served customizable bowls with Hawaiian and Polynesian flavors has closed in Cayce a little over two years after it opened.
Mai Poke, which served the traditional Hawaiian dish of poke in a build-your-own-bowl style, opened in the Parkland Plaza shopping center at 911 State St. in the fall of 2022. As of Jan. 9, that restaurant has closed, according to a sign on the door.
“We regret to inform you that this location is now closed. We deeply appreciate your support and loyalty,” the sign reads.
The eatery, from the same owners as Charleston-based chain East Bay Deli, hopped on the growing trend of serving poke — pronounced “po-kay” — when they opened the location in 2022. The Hawaiian dish typically features fresh or raw fish over a base of rice or salad mix, with an array of toppings and sauces available. The restaurant also offered acai bowls and smoothies.
Owners added a second Mai Poke’ location in Columbia, on Main Street, in fall 2023 and that one is still in operation. It shares a space with Main Street’s East Bay Deli.
Mai Poke’s spot in Cayce’s Parkland Plaza sat along the bustling Knox Abbott Drive. The shopping center is popular with national brands like Five Below, Food Lion and Planet Fitness.
Outside of Columbia, there are two other Mai Poke locations in the Charleston area — one in Mount Pleasant and one in Goose Greek.
