Emergency response crews searching Lake Murray for missing person

COLUMBIA, SC Emergency response teams from Newberry and Saluda counties along with S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department are searching Lake Murray for a possible missing person.

Officials said an abandoned vehicle was found on Black’s Bridge on S.C. 391 early Monday morning, which led DNR and Newberry County deputies to begin an investigation.

Further investigation revealed that the car belonged to 66-year-old Henry Lee Brooks who has not been heard from since Saturday afternoon, which was unusual. Deputies have searched areas where Brooks has been known to go, and they also have interviewed the Brooks’ family and friends.

Newberry County Water Rescue Team and DNR divers were called in to perform a diving operation around the bridge.

Officials said Brooks is described as a black male, standing 5-feet 9-inches and weighs about 240 pounds.

If anyone knows of Brooks’ whereabouts they are urged to call the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 321-2222.
