A restaurant in the heart of downtown Columbia has closed its doors. Here’s what we know

A downtown Columbia restaurant that was known for pastries and more has closed.

The Strudel Shop, which has been located at 1237 Washington St. in the Main Street District since January 2022, announced the closure over the weekend on its Facebook page.

“We Thank all of Columbia and our Wonderful Customers/Friends for the Welcoming and continued Support you all have given us,” The Strudel Shop posted on Facebook Jan. 19. “We enjoyed our stay, yet regrettably we have had to Close our doors at this time! We will miss you, but we will keep you posted on our next Ventures!”

The Columbia Strudel Shop opened on Jan. 27, 2022 at the Washington Street location that formerly was home to M Fresh Restaurant. Owner Kevin Kelly had previously owned a strudel shop in Charlotte.

The Washington Street shop became known for both sweet and savory strudels during the last three years, as well as soups and salads, Neapolitan pizza, sandwiches, cakes, coffee and more.
