The north Main Street area of Columbia will have one less spot for icy sweet treats this coming spring and summer.

Pelican’s SnoBalls is closing the location at 2404 Main St., according to weekend posts on Instagram and Facebook. Pelican’s locations are typically temporarily closed during the winter and open during the warmer months, but the location along Main, north of Elmwood Avenue, reportedly won’t be coming back for 2025.

“Sad to announce we will not be returning to North Main this year,” the location said on social media. “We’ve made the tough call to close this location permanently. We appreciate the years of business from the NoMa community and business association. Maybe we’ll bump into one another at the 2025 cookie crawl again.”

Pelican’s moved to 2404 Main in 2022 after previously being located in the 2700 block of Main for a number of years. There are more than 200 Pelican’s locations across 14 states, including many in South Carolina. There are a host of other Pelican’s locations in the Columbia, Irmo and Lexington areas.

Franchisee Matt Marcom and his family owned the north Main location. They also own the Pelican’s locations on Rosewood Drive, Decker Boulevard and in West Columbia, which will return for the 2025 season. The Rosewood location has been open for more than 10 years.

The company’s specialty is New Orleans-style shaved ice snoballs. Locations typically boast more than 100 flavors, spanning traditional flavors such as grape and orange to unique concoctions such as dill pickle and strawberry cheesecake.
