A car accident has damaged some of the grave stones at the Trinity Episcopal Church cemetery.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Sumter and Gervais streets, Columbia Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Timmons said. One driver struck another car at the intersection and crashed through the fence surrounding the cemetery.

Timmons said the first driver, 78-year-old Johnnie McFadden, has been cited for failure to yield the right of way and has a September court date. McFadden was taken to the hospital, but the driver of the other car didn’t go.
