One killed after pickup truck collides with tractor trailer on an SC highway

One person is dead after a two-vehicle collision on an South Carolina highway.

SC Highway Patrol Master Trooper Brandon Bolt said the crash happened at about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 221 near Cedar Grove Church Road in Laurens County. That’s about 2 miles north of the town of Waterloo.

A 2015 Peterbilt tractor trailer was stopped on eastbound Cedar Grove Church Road, then pulled out and attempted to go north on Highway 221. A 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling south on 221 and collided with the tractor trailer.

The driver of the Chevy pickup died in the crash, the Highway Patrol said. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured, officials said.

The name of the deceased had not been released as of early Wednesday morning. The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
