It was a spicy start to the week in western Lexington.

Bojangles, which is known for its Cajun fried chicken and fixings, opened a new location Monday at 109 Bo Tire Way. That’s just off Hwy. 378, near the Hendrix Crossing shopping center that is anchored by a Publix.

A large balloon was atop the new Bojangles building Monday morning, announcing the opening. The lobby of the restaurant also was festooned with red and yellow balloons when a reporter popped in for a chicken biscuit. The new location features a double drive-thru.

Founded in 1977 in Charlotte, Bojangles has grown to more than 800 restaurants across 17 states, with more than 9,000 employees. There are 25 Bojangles locations across the Midlands, according to a store locator tool on the company’s website.

Bojangles has long been known for Cajun fried chicken, breakfast biscuits, seasoned fries, dirty rice, macaroni and cheese, and more.

The new Bojangles is situated along a busy four-lane highway not far from Lake Murray. Nearby businesses include Publix, Zaxby’s, Midas, Mavis auto shop, a San Jose Express Mexican restaurant and Mod Wash car wash, among others. Lexington High School is about a mile to the south, via Charter Oak Road.

Roughly 19,000 cars per day travel down the section of Hwy. 378 near the Bojangles, according to state Department of Transportation statistics.
