A growing coffee company has opened a new store along a busy thoroughfare in the Midlands.

Canal Coffee Co., which has nine locations across South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida, has a new location at 510 Columbia Ave. in Lexington. That’s just west of North Lake Drive, not far from downtown Lexington.

While the coffee is already brewing at the new location there were cars lined up at the drive-thru when a reporter went by Monday morning — the company will have a grand opening celebration on Feb. 8. That day, according to a release, customers will be able to get 50% off a sweet and salty mocha, served hot or cold. Also, the first 500 customers on Feb. 8 will get custom stickers with any purchase and kids can get a Canal coloring page and redeem the completed page for a free hot chocolate.

Canal Lexington also is having a contest via its app and Instagram page in which a winner will get free coffee for a year.

The menu at Canal includes a host of traditional and specialty coffees, including seasonal menus such as the current Candy Collection for the Valentine’s Day season. One seasonal item is the Coconut Mocha Latte, in which rich espresso meets smooth chocolate and a hint of coconut. Canal also serves energy drinks, teas, smoothies and hot breakfast items such as spicy sausage biscuits.

The Canal Coffee on Columbia Avenue is in a high-traffic spot in Lexington, northwest of downtown. Nearly 33,000 cars per day travel down that section of Columbia Avenue, per state Department of Transportation data. The coffee place is near a number of other commercial businesses, including a Pizza Hut next door, and a Best Western hotel and Applebee’s restaurant across the street. It’s also just east of Clutch Coffee, another growing coffee chain.
