The wait is nearly over, Lexington. It’s almost burger time.

Whataburger, the popular Texas-based chain that has expanded into South Carolina and the Midlands in the last year, is set to open its first Lexington location. It will debut at 9:30 a.m., Feb. 6 at 888 S. Lake Drive, according to a release from the company.

This will mark the third Midlands Whataburger location, following the September 2024 opening of a location in Irmo and the November 2024 debut of a location on Bridgeberry Lane in northeast Columbia.

“We are proud to bring Whataburger’s bold, fresh flavors to Lexington, a city with an incredibly rich history,” Operating Partner Albert Ochoa said in a statement. “We’re so glad this new location is [opening] at 888 S. Lake Drive. The people of Lexington County now have a Whataburger they call their own.”

According to a release, the first two customers in the drive-thru lane and the first two in line for the dining room on Feb. 6 will each receive “a free Whataburger for a year.”

The first 100 customers to arrive Feb. 6 will get free honey butter chicken biscuits. The next 200 customers after that will get “special Whataburger swag,” the company said.

The new Whataburger will be open 24 hours per day, 364 days per year. They’ll be closed on Christmas day.

The Lexington Whataburger is on a very busy stretch of road that’s less than a mile north of Interstate 20. About 24,000 cars per day travel down that section of S. Lake Drive, per state Department of Transportation data.

There are about 1,100 Whataburger locations in the U.S., per data site ScrapeHero. The national chain is separate from the locally owned What-A-Burger in West Columbia.
