For the win: There’s a new Columbia spot where you can try your luck at a game show

It’s game on in the Vista.

The Game Show Challenge, an entertainment venue that lets groups of players participate in game show scenarios, complete with a professional host, has opened its doors at 823 Gervais St. suite 120 in the Vista nightlife and entertainment district.

There will be a formal ribbon cutting for The Game Show Challenge at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 with Vista and city officials slated to be in attendance.

Aside from the new Vista spot, there also is a Game Show Challenge location on Hampton Avenue in Greenville.

The Game Show Challenge venue in Columbia can accommodate groups up to 48 people, according to a release from the Vista, with most groups typically being between six and 14 people. Players “will enjoy professional hosts, dazzling lighting and state-of-the-art technology to provide an immersive, high-energy experience,” the release touted.

The venue features games that are “inspired by popular TV shows,” the release noted, including trivia challenges, word games and more.

“We’re thrilled to bring The Game Show Challenge into downtown Columbia,” Game Show Challenge creator Josh Brickey said in a statement. “Our mission is simple: to create lasting memories filled with magical moments. This new location allows us to bring that mission to life for more people in the Midlands.”

Among the games at The Game Show Challenge is “Spin To Win,” a Wheel of Fortune-style game where teams solve word puzzles after spinning a giant wheel. There’s also “Drop Zone,” a “Plinko”-type game where contestants drop chips along a 12-foot high board, achieving points along the way.

“The Game Show Challenge is a truly unique entertainment experience,” Vista Guild Executive Director Abby Anderson said in a statement. “We hope people will gather their friends and co-workers and come for a night of fun in the Vista.”
