A well-known restaurant is coming to this former Midlands Hardee’s property. Check it out
A property that once was home to a fast food burger spot will now be home to another.
Cook Out, a Southern fast food staple known for burgers, barbecue sandwiches, milkshakes and more, will construct a new restaurant at 1413 Charleston Hwy. in West Columbia, just south of Knox Abbott Drive. That address was formerly home to a Hardee’s restaurant.
The building that once housed the Hardee’s at the address has been demolished. Site work for the coming Cook Out has begun, and crews were on the property working when a reporter rode by on Monday morning.
An opening date for Cook Out at 1413 Charleston Hwy. has not been announced. The location is listed as “coming soon” on the location finder tool on the Cook Out website.
The State first reported nearly a year ago on the possibility of the Cook Out coming to Charleston Highway.
Cook Out has an expansive fast food menu, including char-grilled burgers, quesadillas, barbecue sandwiches, corn dogs, onion rings, chicken wraps, chicken tenders and more. The eateries also are known for their decadent, almost impossibly thick milkshakes, which are available in dozens of flavors.
The West Columbia location will be the eighth Cook Out restaurant in the Midlands. There are more than 350 Cook Out locations nationwide, per data site ScrapeHero.
Charleston Highway is a busy thoroughfare filled with commercial businesses. About 26,000 cars per day travel down the section near where Cook Out will be, per state Department of Transportation records.
