Motorists traveling west on Interstate 26 around Columbia will have to take a detour on two upcoming nights, as the state Department of Transportation is set to close lanes on a new bridge over the Saluda River for two nights.

SCDOT will install new overhead signage on the bridge, temporarily closing access to exit 108 B-A on I-26 westbound. The changes are part of the Carolina Crossroads Project, an ongoing effort to untangle the conglomerated interchanges of I-26, Interstate 20 and Interstate 126 often referred to as “Malfunction Junction.”

The lane closures on the bridge will occur on Feb. 24 and Feb. 27 from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. During these times, traffic for the exits will be detoured through I-26 westbound to I-20 westbound to I-26 eastbound.

Message boards and traffic signs showing the detour will be placed along I-26 westbound, and motorists are encouraged to allow for additional travel time, according to the release.
