Search for missing man ends when body is discovered in house fire, SC coroner says
The search for a missing man ended Wednesday when a body was discovered at a fire in South Carolina, according to the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
Richard Morrison, 77, is the citizen who died, Coroner Chris Hill said Thursday in a news release.
On Wednesday, the Fairfield County Fire Service responded to a structure fire on Cool Branch Road in the Carlisle area of Fairfield County, according to the release.
Firefighters learned an individual was not accounted for, and eventually discovered Morrison after the fire was extinguished, the coroner’s office said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about what time the fire was reported, and how long it took to extinguish the blaze, was not available.
After the body was found, members of the coroner’s office and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene, according to the release. They, along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the South Carolina Forestry Commission are investigating the death.
An autopsy has been scheduled in Newberry to determine Morrison’s cause of death, according to the coroner’s office. No manner of death has been announced by the coroner’s office.
There was no word about where the fire originated, or the cause of the fire. Officials did not say if foul play was suspected.
