A restaurant that rose to popularity in Atlanta and is known for it cheesesteak sandwiches has set an opening date for a Columbia location.

Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks will have its grand opening at noon on March 8 at 942-B in Five Points, according to posts from the company on Instagram. The first 100 customers in line on opening day will receive a “special gift,” the social media posts said.

Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks was founded by Derrick Hayes, who named the restaurant after his late father. A Philadelphia native who relocated to Atlanta, Hayes opened the first Big Dave’s in a gas station in Dunwoody, Georgia. It later spread to several other locations across the Atlanta area, and a Charlotte outpost opened in 2024.

The Columbia location will be the first South Carolina Big Dave’s. As reported in a February 2024 story in restaurant industry publication QSR Magazine, franchisees Marc Brown and Frank Williams III inked a deal to bring five Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks restaurants to South Carolina, including the Columbia spot.

The Five Points Big Dave’s will be located in a strip of businesses on the northern end of the district. It is right next door to Teriyaki Madness restaurant, and the Flying Biscuit Cafe and an Orangetheory Fitness are close by.

As you would imagine, the menu at Big Dave’s features a host of cheesesteak sandwiches. Among them is the Classic Dave’s Way Cheesesteak. which comes with chopped steak, onions, sweet peppers, banana peppers, mushrooms and 3 types of cheese on an Amoroso’s roll.
