There soon will a new place for cool treats in famously hot Columbia.

Cold Stone Creamery, which has ice cream shops across the U.S., will open a new location at 4333 Fort Jackson Blvd. That’s right next door to the Cross Hill Market shopping center that’s just off nearby Devine Street and anchored by a Whole Foods grocery store.

The Cold Stone at 4833 Fort Jackson Blvd. is listed as “coming soon” on the company’s website and there is a banner hanging on the storefront also noting its impending arrival. An opening date has not been publicly announced. The shop space remained under construction when a reporter went by Tuesday morning.

There are more than 1,000 Cold Stone Creamery locations across the nation, according to data site ScrapeHero. Other Cold Stone locations currently in the Midlands include a shop on North Lake Drive in Lexington and one on Columbiana Drive in the Harbison shopping area.

Cold Stone Creamery offers ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, sundaes, ice cream cakes and more. Customers can order custom ice cream creations with toppings and flavors mixed in, and those items are created atop a frozen granite stone.

The Cold Stone coming to Fort Jackson Boulevard is near a number of high-profile businesses. It will be right next door to the F45 Fitness workout space, and other nearby spots include Whole Foods Market, Midwood Smokehouse, Orvis outdoor clothing retailer, and a Bojangles, among others.

It will be in a high-traffic corridor, with nearly 30,000 cars per day traveling down nearby Devine Street, per state Department of Transportation data.
