Neighbor discovers human remains behind a South Carolina home, coroner says

Human remains were discovered behind a South Carolina home Monday night, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

At about 8 p.m., Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in the 200 block of Woodfield Road after being called about the discovery, the coroner’s office said Tuesday in a news release.

A neighbor was performing a well-being check when the body parts were found, according to the release.

Members of the coroner’s office got to the home at about 8:40 p.m. and confirmed the remains were human before they were collected, according to the release. The remains will be sent to Newberry Pathology to assist with positively identifying the person as well as determining both a cause and manner of death, the coroner’s office said.

There was no word if foul play was suspected, or how long it had been since the person died.

Both the coroner’s office and sheriff’s office are continuing to investigate the discovery.
