Cayce police are investigating a series of suspicious fires they suspect may be instances of arson.

From March 1-14, the city reports an undisclosed number of fires occurred along the Cayce Riverwalk and adjacent commercial properties, according to a Friday release.

City spokesperson Ashley Hunter said police are withholding the number of fires they’re investigating along with any other details about them to protect the integrity of the investigation. That’s also why she says the public wasn’t alerted to the rash of fires until now.

“The timing of my statement was very specific,” Hunter said when contacted by The State following Friday’s press release. “It was done at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.”

Per the release, Cayce police continue to investigate the fires alongside the Cayce Fire Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. They ask that anyone with information about the fires and anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact them at 803-550-9536 or tips@caycesc.gov.
