Boil water advisory issued for Chapin elementary, middle schools

A boil water advisory has been issued for Chapin elementary and middle schools and residents near the schools Wednesday by the city of Columbia.

The city experienced an 8-inch water main break Thursday which could result in bacterial contamination of the water at the schools and in nearby residences around the 1100 block of Old Lexington Highway.

Water customers are advised to vigorously boil their water one full minute prior to drinking or eating. Any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.

Anyone who has questions regarding the advisory is asked to call the City of Columbia Customer Care Call Center at (803) 545-3300.
