A long-running chicken finger restaurant company is set to open the doors on a location in Lexington.

Guthrie’s, which has numerous restaurants across the South, will have a grand opening for a new location from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 22 at 2404 Mineral Springs Road, according to an email from the company. The restaurant will be near the intersection of Mineral Springs and Sunset Boulevard.

This will be the first Guthrie’s location in South Carolina. Guthrie’s was founded in Alabama in 1965, according to the company’s website. It currently has locations across the U.S., including spots in Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and elsewhere, per a store locator tool on its website.

The restaurant’s menu specializes in chicken fingers. It is well-known for the “Gut Box,” which, according to the Guthrie’s website, comes with “golden fried chicken fingers, crispy fries, creamy cole slaw, buttery Texas toast, and Guthrie’s signature sauce.”

A spokersperson said there will be a ceremonial ribbon cutting for Guthrie’s at 4 p.m. on opening day. Following that ribbon cutting, there will be a chicken finger eating contest between teams representing Lexington High School and River Bluff High School. The victorious team will win free Gut Box coupons for their entire school, the spokesperson said.

The spot where the Lexington Guthrie’s is opening is directly adjacent to busy Sunset Boulevard in Lexington. A 14 Carrot Whole Foods store is across Sunset Boulevard from the restaurant, and it’s less than a mile west from a Target shopping center. It’s in a high-traffic thoroughfare, as more than 40,000 cars per day travel down Sunset Boulevard nearby, according to state Department of Transportation statistics, while nearly 11,000 cars per day travel down Mineral Springs Road.
