Teen arrested following Columbia-area shooting, Richland County deputies say

A teenager has been arrested following a shooting in the Columbia area.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrested Darren Archie Jr., 19, and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with a Wednesday shooting along Bluff Road.

According to a sheriff’s department release, deputies responded at about 4 p.m. Wednesday to the 6800 block of Bluff Road. When they got there, they found a victim with gunshot wounds to the lower body. The sheriff’s department said the victim had gotten into an altercation with Archie, who was reportedly the boyfriend of the victim’s daughter. The argument was reportedly regarding the victim’s vehicle.

During the incident, the sheriff’s department alleges that Archie shot at the victim, “striking him multiple times,” according to the release. Richland County EMS took the victim to a local hospital.

Deputies later arrested Archie at his home and transported him to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
