A Columbia discount store on a busy street heavily damaged by fire. What to know
A Columbia discount store along a busy street near downtown was damaged during a weekend fire.
Columbia Fire Department crews responded at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19 to a fire call at the Dollar Tree store at 2001 Rosewood Drive, according to social media posts from the department. That’s at the corner of Rosewood Drive and S. Saluda Avenue.
When firefighters got on the scene, they saw black smoke coming out of the front of the store, the department said.
“The fire broke out in an aisle of the store and extended into the attic,” the fire department posted on social media platform X. “Crews entered the building and quickly brought the incident under control. All staff and customers who were inside the store at the time got out safely.”
Firefighters said the Dollar Tree building “did suffer heavy damages.” The fire remained under investigation, the department said in its weekend post.
Several calls to the Dollar Tree on Tuesday morning were met only with a busy signal. Per its website, the store is typically open 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. on Sunday.
There are more than 8,700 Dollar Tree stores across the U.S., per data site ScrapeHero. There are about 20 locations for the brand in the Columbia area, per a store locator tool on the company’s website.
