A popular bakery in Irmo was damaged Thursday after a car crashed through the front of the store.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon at the Lita’s Treats location at 800 Lake Murray Blvd in Irmo. The shop is known for its baked goods and sweet treats, particularly cupcakes.

“Earlier [Thursday], officers responded to Lita’s Treats after a vehicle made an unexpected entrance,” the Irmo Police Department posted on Facebook, alongside a photo of a gold SUV smashed through the front of the bakery. “Good news! Despite the close encounter, no injuries were reported. EMS did check on the driver, who thankfully is okay.”

Police indicated the driver had a mix-up between the brake and gas pedals.

Meanwhile, Lita’s Treats also posted about the incident on its Facebook page.

“Our #LakeMurray location is closed until further notice,” Lita’s posted. “Thank GOD that everyone is safe. We’re literally speechless.”

The Irmo Lita’s Treats was still listed as “temporarily closed” on Google as of Friday morning. The Lita’s Treats location at 460 Killian Road remains open.

Lita’s Facebook post about the crash drew a big response, with nearly 3,000 reactions, more than 600 comments and nearly 500 shares as of Friday morning. One of the commenters was Democratic state Rep. Kambrell Garvin.

“So sorry this happened,” Garvin responded. “Thankful to learn that everyone is ok.”
