Five die in Kershaw County traffic accidents in past week
Traffic fatalities in Kershaw County doubled last week as five people were killed in accidents that occurred between Aug. 3 and 8.
Three of the fatalities occurred Saturday, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said. John Randall Hudson, 29, and his wife Marie Jackson Hudson, 27, were killed when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a car on Wildwood Lane in Elgin. The Sheriff’s office said that three hours later, Evan Pauling, 40, was killed in another motorcycle crash when he ran off the side of the road and into a guide wire on Camden’s St. Paul Road.
One of the other fatalities occurred near earlier in the week, when Robert “Drew” David was killed on Aug. 3 in a single-vehicle crash. The 17-year-old was a passenger in the vehicle he was ejected from and died in a Columbia-area hospital Thursday.
On Friday, 54-year-old Jerry Yount from Camden was killed when his vehicle was struck head-on on Red Hill Rd.
As a result of the fatal accidents, bringing Kershaw County’s annual total to 10 traffic-related fatalities, drivers can expect to see increased enforcement from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
