Two popular national retailers are coming to this busy Columbia shopping center
A Columbia shopping center along a busy retail corridor is getting a pair of new stores in spaces that were previously occupied by other national chains.
A Sierra Trading Post store is coming to 136 Harbison Blvd. in the Columbiana Station shopping center that is home to a Target store and a Publix supermarket. A Facebook post earlier this year from commercial real estate firm The Providence Group indicated Sierra was coming, and a city of Columbia building permit for Sierra is hanging in the window. Construction was ongoing when a reporter went by Monday morning.
The Sierra location is going into the space that formerly was home to Bed Bath and Beyond, which closed in 2023. Sierra is known for offering outdoor apparel, footwear and other gear at discount prices. It is part of the company that also owns T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods.
There are nearly 120 Sierra stores across the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero. In South Carolina there are currently Sierra locations in Anderson and Greenville, per a store locator page on the company’s website.
Meanwhile, a new Rack Room Shoes store is coming to 144 Harbison Blvd., just a few doors down from where Sierra will be. The Rack Room will be going into the space that formerly was home to Party City, which closed earlier this year.
There is a banner hanging in the window at 144 Harbison that announces Rack Room is “coming soon.” There also is a building permit for Rack Room hanging in the window of the storefront.
There are about 500 Rack Room locations across the U.S. The company offers name-brand sneakers, dress shoes, sandals and more.
The Harbison Boulevard area northwest of downtown Columbia continues to be a busy retail area, with a host of shops, restaurants, theaters, big box stores and the Columbia Centre mall lining the corridor near Interstate 26. About 28,100 cars per day travel down Harbison, according to state Department of Transportation traffic count data.
