Not closing: Frozen treat shop near Columbia reaches deal to stay open
Rejoice, Elgin snoball fans. A popular spot for the sweet treats will remain open.
The Pelican’s SnoBalls location at 2291 Highway 1 South, which announced earlier this month that it would close because of an unresolved dispute with its landlord, now says it has reached an agreement and will continue to operate.
“After some recent conversations, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve reached an agreement with our landlord — and we want to extend a huge thank you to him for working with us to keep Pelican’s Snoballs right here in Elgin!,” the Pelican’s location said in a May 17 Facebook post.
The store in question is just northeast of downtown Elgin. There are more than 200 Pelican’s locations across the U.S., according to a store locator on the company’s website, including roughly a dozen in the greater Midlands area.
Pelican’s is known for its New Orleans-style shaved ice snoballs, which are available in up to 100 flavors. (This reporter’s personal favorite is Georgia Peach, which is peach with a kick of strawberry.)
“Now, with a new path forward, we need your support more than ever to help us bring the fun, flavor, and family memories back stronger than ever,” the Elgin Pelican’s said on Facebook. “Come out, grab your favorite snoball, and let’s make this summer one to remember!”
